Poundworld Beauty Bargains

poundshop beauty

As much as I love a pound shop haul, I do get a teeny bit annoyed when I think back to being a teenager, where I spent many hours in Boots looking at the shiny beautiful make-up counters full of things I just couldn’t afford, with no option for bargains.

Pound shops have definitely progressed in the last ten years, and I find that teenagers these days are now skipping the awkward phase of “finding make-up” simply because everything is much more affordable.

Anyway, let’s crack on with the haul:

First up a re-purchase from my last pound shop haul, Clearasil’s Superfruits Refreshing Pads are my new favourite thing!

clearasil poundshop

I use these after I have wiped my make-up off but before any serums and eye cream. It is amazing for getting up any last bits of foundation I’ve missed and has a textured surface to remove dead skin.

The smell is a little strong but I can deal with that as it has definitely cleared up my skin – I absolutely recommend this!

Next I wanted to try out some new face wipes, and when you come across brand like Nivea, you can’t really go wrong.

nivea face wipes

Fragrance-free is always the best for your wipes as I find those that are heavily scented really sting the eyes – not a good feeling!

These are brilliant – they remove waterproof mascara and all of the other lotions and potions I put on my face, leaving it feeling refreshed.

I wandered on over to the beauty counter and after much digging, found an absolute bargain:

wake me up

I am a new convert to Rimmel’s Wake Me Up Range, so when I saw these I had to snap them up.

I’ve seen them in Boots (I think) for around £4, so to get two shades for £2 is just bargainous!

I have an olive complexion which means in the winter my skin looks almost grey, and in the summer I am really very brown. So with these, the pink will be perfect for winter and the peach sits lovely under the Wake Me Up Foundation in the summer.

They are very subtle tones, and now I have used them I would purchase them at full price.

Finally, while rooting through a bargain bucket, I did indeed find a bargain, my FAVOURITE fake nails in the best possible finish, pink glitter!

elegant touch nails

I have had these before, and they retail at £7.99 a pack so I don’t really need to say any more!

Although these are the sticky tab ones which I find just do nothing for me, I do have my trusty stock of Elegant Touch Nail Glue which keeps them on for at least a week!

So there you have it – a £5 haul that would have a retail price of at least £20, can’t say fairer than that!

Thanks Poundworld!

Have you picked up any good deals lately? We’d love to see them!

Mani Monday #5

It’s Monday, you know what that means…Another Mani Monday!

This week I went a little girly and had a pink mani with the prettiest glitter for the ring finger, and for once, there is NO Barry M nail paint AT ALL. Not one bit. – I do like to be a rebel sometimes…

So this post is dedicated to Collection 2000, No 7 and erm… Asda glitter.

Basically I love glitter and as gorgeous as some glitter polishes can be, nothing quite does it like actual glitter.

Just look at how pretty.

So here’s how:

After cleaning, priming, and base-coating, I used the pale pink from Collection 2000 (I’m unsure of the shade as it’s faded) and painted 3 thin layers to get a good coverage and no smudging.

For the ring finger I used my favourite base coat – Sally Hansen’s Continuous Growth Treatment – and while it’s still sticky, sprinkle the glitter on and gently push it in so it really sticks.

Next I used the No 7 Glitter Top Coat as it is very close to the colour of the glitter, and adds some depth to the shine. You could also use this as a top coat over the pink as it is a very subtle glitter, but I really wanted the ring finger to stand out.

Buying a pack of glitter comes in handy for your nails, especially at Christmas, as you can really make them stand out.

I hope you have a fabulous Monday!

Mani Monday #2

Welcome to another Mani Monday.

This week is a bit of a cheat but I had to share my new fave buy, Primark’s false nails.

At £1 they are an absolute bargain – you may be thinking ‘there’s a reason they’re so cheap…’ and well, you’d be right. The slight let down is the glue that is included in the pack – I can barely pull up my tights after one day without the thumbs popping off!

Solution? Elegant Touch Brush on Nail Glue, £3.10 from Boots is a God-send.

The nails (with the Boots glue) will last a good week before one pops off and that’s coming from me. I’m clumsy and bash away at a keyboard all day.

I love the ombre glitter style, slightly elegant and adds a bit of sparkle to my Monday. I usually go for the french tips, but this is a cute substitute.

As I said, I’m clumsy, and the reason I go for these instead of the real deal is I do have quite strong nails, so when they break they hurt. I cut my nails down too short so these are to protect my nails from chipping at the sides to ensure they grow evenly.

Primark stock plenty of designs from neon pink, plain french tips to lace and glitter. They come in one size which isn’t stupidly long, but they are easily cut and filed if they don’t suit you. So head to Primark and grab a bargain!

Sales Sales Sales

We are all led to believe the big Boxing Day Sale to hit is Next, thanks to the incessant adverts and selfless promotion which bombards us until Christmas.

But, come Boxing Day morning, crisp and cold, I parked up outside Next, strolled right passed the crowd, and headed next door into Boots. It was 9am and although some of those women milling around had been there since 4am – true story – it was Boxing Day and I should’ve been at home in a mince pie coma. But the sales were calling.

I chose Boots to get some amazing deals on box sets, then hit Laura Ashley for a few candles and room spray. Here are some of my purchases:

Soap & Glory Once Upon a Lime // Betty & Walter Bath Salts // Umberto Giannini Full Volume Hair Kit // Laura Ashley Candle and Room Spray in Christmas Pomander // Laura Ashley Glitter Candle in Christmas Pomander // No7 Glitter Nail Varnish Set

Soap & Glory Once Upon a Lime – was £18 now £9

What’s in the box:

  • Sugar Crush Body Wash (which doubles as bath bubbles)
  • Sugar Crush Moisture-Extreme Re-energising Body Buttercream
  • Mini Sugar Crush Body Scrub
  • Pink Exfoliator

With the sweet brown sugar and lime scent, these mouth-watering products really do smell good enough to eat. I especially love the body scrub, as it leaves skin feeling so soft and smooth and isn’t too rough on my particularly dry skin.

Betty & Walter Bath Salts – was £6 now £3

Initially it was the cute jar and scoop that made me pick up these salts, but they smell beautiful with soothing fig and pink pepper to really help melt away your stress. I’m a sucker for new products as this is the first time I have tried anything from Betty & Walter, and I have high hopes for this product.

Umberto Giannini Full Volume Hair Kit – was £16 now £8

I have a lot of hair – and I don’t like getting haircuts – so I have a lot to tame. I love the big hair look so the combination of the mousse and volume spray really caught my eye. The rollers are in a cute gold colour, but I don’t know how well that will go with the length of my hair. There will be a full tutorial on this set shortly.

Laura Ashley Boxed Candle, Room Spray and Glitter Candle in Christmas Pomander – was £14, £10 and £16 now £7, £5 and £8 respectively.

The Laura Ashley Sale for home accessories in my opinion is one of the best – beautiful candles with complementing diffusers are just the start. The room sprays are in a league of their own, and the Christmas Pomander is by far my favourite. The scent is light and fruity with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and mulled wine with a slight vanilla scent, perfect for making your home smell like Christmas.

No7 Glitter Nail Varnish Set was £13 now £6.50

Well I love a good nail varnish, and No7 are definitely in my list of top hard-wearing varnishes. The range of colours and glitter is what made me pick up this little treat box. I especially love the pink glitter top coat, which will be perfect for a ring finger mani. My review will be here soon.
