My MAC makeover

I love makeup – nothing makes me happier than lipsticks and eyeshadows, eyeliner and good conturing (it’s the only girly thing about me).

One of my amazing Christmas presents from the boyf. was a gift card to go and get some MAC makeup and have a makeover.

*Now, this was very clever on his part – he’s not only showing he knows me very well, but also has the bonus of seeing me look like less of a tramp for a day. Well played, boyf. well played…*

My appointment was made for 25 January at the Selfridges in the Trafford Centre, Manchester (Stoke doesn’t have one, we’re not that classy)…

The makeup artist was Fran and she was absolutely lovely. She put me at ease, had beautiful makeup on (some can have a little too much on and I didn’t want that look – far too much effort), and asked what kind of makeover I was after.

Because I’m a bit dense and was too excited to be sat at a MAC counter, I hadn’t really thought about what look I wanted. In the 30 seconds after Fran had asked, I made the quick decision of a smokey eye and contouring.

MAC Makeover 1

Starting with my eyes, she worked her magic and created a coppery smokey look, winged eyeliner and false lashes (well, why not go all out, ay?). Then it was time for the base…

I knew I wanted to buy some MAC foundation and this was the perfect opportunity to figure out which shade was the one for me.

Turns out I’m an NW15, and we opted for the Studio Fix Fluid foundation, with NW15 Select Cover Up concealer and Mineralise SkinFinish powder in Medium and Medium Deep.

After a matte peach blush finished the face, we moved on to the final part – the lips.

Up until now, the boyf. had dutifully sat, took a few photos, munched on cookies and was generally well behaved. As soon as lipstick was mentioned, he chirped up and declared I wasn’t allowed to wear my ‘usual goth colour’ – hmpf.

So, seeing as my favourite deep plum (not goth) lippy was vetoed, we instead decided on a nude lipliner and coral lip. Et voila!

I was over the moon with the whole thing and couldn’t thank Fran enough. To top it all off, I bought the foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer and eyelashes before heading off for a lovely meal.

An amazing MAC makeover and an all-round amazing Sunday.

Have you ever had a makeover?

My girly night in

A girly night in

After all the excitement illness and wisdom tooth pain of Christmas and New Year, I’d finally stopped feeling like death and started to be able to eat again – just in time for going back to work on Monday.

Thanks to my body’s impeccable timing, I thought I may as well cut my losses and make the most of my final weekend before heading back to the office.

The boyf. was out having a night of Call of Duty and rum-drinking, so it was only right that I use the time to myself wisely and go for full-on girly-ness…

Starting with a beautiful purple bubble bath courtesy of a Lush bubble bar called The Comforter, I soaked for a good hour, listened to The Courteeners and lathered my hair to within an inch of its life.

I then did the magical thing of covering myself in body moisturiser, had a tiny Rachel from Friends moment (“Ooooh love to love you baby, ow!”), before putting on my Christmas ‘jamas – yes, they’re a thing – and slid into bed.

Now, because I was alone, there was only one thing for it…

Sit and revel/sob in the delight of The Fault in Our Stars and eat copious amounts of chocolate. Just because, you know.

I also may have swapped my usual two-legged furry friend for a four-legged furry friend in the shape of Denv (sorry boyf.)

I woke up feeling extremely refreshed and ridiculously pampered.

So there you have it, my girly night in.

Ciate Mini Mani Month: 12 days of Christmas

Before the boyf. departed for Thailand, he surprised me with a present to keep me occupied while he was away (he’s very good like that).

My Ciate Mini Mani Month advent calendar was a bargain from TK Maxx and something that I may have had a little squeal over.

Although there are 24 doors to open with a mini Ciate behind each one, I thought I’d share the first 12 with you:

Ciate Mini Mani Month

On the first day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Snow Globe

On the second day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Boudoir

On the third day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Amazing Gracie

On the fourth day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Silver Caviar Metallic Pearls

On the fifth day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Hoopla

On the sixth day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Sugar Plum

On the seventh day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Main Stage

On the eighth day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Midnight in Manhattan Caviar Pearls

On the ninth day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Candy Floss

On the tenth day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Pillow Fight

On the eleventh day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Pepperminty

On the twelfth day of Christmas Ciate sent to me: Gold Caviar Metallic Pearls

I absolutely LOVE all of them although I haven’t braved the caviar pearls just yet. With 12 more to go I can’t wait to see what comes next.

The boyf. did good – a nail polish a day keeps the girly-ness at bay 😉

The Christmas wish list

Last year I got exactly what I’d been asking for for 18 years – a dog. My lovely (if somewhat rather large and mentally unstable) Labrador, Denver celebrated his first birthday on November 19.

But, although I was over the moon to finally get my puppy, I’m now stuck for ideas as to what I’d like for Christmas (ditto birthdays).

Other than a house, I couldn’t really name anything that I’m desperate to unwrap on December 25. But, after countless hours perusing the internet, I’ve come up with a slightly fantastical Christmas wish list:

Christmas party dresses – ’tis the season

It’s officially December and the big day is only 23 days away, but before we get to it, there’s a whole host of Christmas parties to attend.

And I don’t know about you, but the festive holiday is my excuse for cracking out everything sparkly, glittery and metallic.

Well, ’tis the season…

All that glitters is gold

What will you be wearing this Christmas?

While the boyf’s away…

So, November 29 rolled around meaning my lovely boyf. has gone to Thailand and won’t be returning until December 16.

Now, for most girls that would mean sulking in pyjamas, eating a lot of Ben & Jerry’s, watching hundreds of chick flicks and counting down the days until their return.

Well not this girl.

Although I’m going to miss him terribly, especially given that it’s the festive season, it’s a once in a lifetime experience for him.

Yes, I’m a bit jealous that I won’t be exploring another country for three weeks, but it means, should we ever decide to go to Thailand, I have my very own personal tour guide who will know all the best places.

But, I digress – my point is that while the boyf. is away, I have set myself a bit of a challenge.

Call it temporary insanity (or just plain stupidity) but I’m going to partake in the following:

Why I hear you ask? Well, I don’t have my distraction around to encourage me to eat Dominos, and in doing this I might just look and feel strong and healthy for all the Christmas parties that are around the corner.

Plus, it will allow me to live off tins of Roses and Quality Street guilt-free once the boyf. returns…

Wish me luck!
